In a historic first, protesters in Washington denounce Browne family corruption

With Gaston Browne forcing critics to recant and apologise for asking questions about his corruption, the first protests emerged today in Washington, where free speech is protected.

“Gaston Browne’s one-family rule is giving the whole Caribbean a bad name,” said a Jamaican protester identifying himself as James, a spokesman for the ad-hoc Caribbean Solidarity Committee.

“We are gathering here for the first time on the steps of the Organisation of American States, across from the White House, to tell the world that Browne does not represent the people of the Caribbean,” he said.

Browne is hosting the OAS General assembly in June, James said.

“Why Gaston stash the Alfa Cash?” said the signs of two protesters, questioning what happened to the money from the sale of the super yacht.

“Gaston, the Alfa money gone wey?” said another sign.

“Gaston family first, we last,” another protester’s sign said.

Other signs accused Browne of selling out Antigua and Barbuda to China. Still others asked questions about last year’s murder of Brown’e parliamentary ally-turned-opponent, Asot Michael.

We will have more pictures shortly.
