It’s been almost 5 years since Gaston said, ‘bring the evidence’ of corruption

Almost five years have passed since Gaston Browne challenged critics to “bring the evidence” of his alleged corruption, and that evidence is on the way.

Browne made the challenge on Pointe FM radio, in comments reported on July 5, 2020, by Antigua Newsroom.

“If they have any evidence of wrongdoing bring the evidence,” he said, according to the report.

“If they have for example the over pricing of any contract or any procurement that could have facilitated any kickbacks bring the evidence. Even though that may not necessarily be conclusive it could be suggestive,” Browne said on Pointe FM, as reported by Antigua Newsroom.

Browne said he is reducing the opportunities for corruption. In his words, “And one of the things we have done within my administration is that we have reduced or eliminated practically in all instances the opportunity for theft.”

“So all contracts have to be evaluated and where there are procurements, there has to be several bids, it has to go through the Tenders Board and through that process we have been able to eliminate the opportunity for inflated contracts and kickbacks,” the prime minister said.

“Browne said personally he does not need corruption money,” according to Antigua Newsroom.

“I have said unequivocally I have never gotten any borball money from government,” Browne said. “I have never gotten none and I don’t need any.”
